South Sudan changes time zone

2021-01-20

South Sudan will change time zone from East Africa Time (EAT) to Central Africa Time (CAT) at 00:00 on 1 February, 2021.

This changes the time zone offset from UTC +3 to UTC +2.

The change will bring the time in Sudan more in sync with solar time. Solar noon in Juba, South Sudan's capital, is today more than one hour behind noon in South Sudan.

Central Africa Time is also observed by Egypt and Sudan. South Sudan's neighbour to the south, Uganda, observes East Africa Time.

Sudan changed time zone from East Africa Time to Central Africa Time in 2017.
